Al-Nassr looks set to complete the shock move of Spanish defender Aymeric Laporte after the Saudi side agreed a fee with Manchester City for the 29-year-old.
According to the Daily Mail, and backed up by a few others, Laporte will travel to the Middle East soon to complete his move to the Saudi giants.
The former Athletic Bilbao defender will line up alongside Sadio Mane and Cristiano Ronaldo, as well as former Manchester United rival Alex Telles.
Laporte looks set to call time on a five-year spell in Manchester where he helped guide Pep Guardiola’s side to five Premier League titles, two FA Cups, five League cups, and the Champions League last season.
Laporte made 180 appearances for the reigning Premier League champions, scoring 12 goals during that time, but is now set to end his incredibly successful tenure in the Premier League.
What would he offer Al-Nassr?
The Spanish defender would bring huge experience and incredible talent at playing out from the back. He was perhaps unfortunate to be phased out towards the end of last season with three centre-backs featuring in the UEFA Champions League final, but Laporte wasn’t one of them.
It looks to be even harder for the defender to fit into the City team after Guardiola’s side completed the £80 million move for RB Leipzig defender Josko Gvardiol.
The Spanish defender has a pass completion rate of 92%, according to FBREF, which is the second highest in Europe’s top five leagues. As well as this, the defender is the best in Europe’s top five leagues at progressive passes and progressive carries, he would be a huge asset for the Saudi side.
The fee, which is believed to be around £23 million according to the same report from the Mail, represents a bargain for the Saudi side and they will hope he can lead them to a victory following two defeats in a row to start the new season.
