Al-Nassr midfielder Seko Fofana is reportedly set for a move to Steven Gerrard’s Al-Ettifaq on deadline day of the January transfer window.

Seko Fofana is currently on international duty with Ivory Coast in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) as his side recently defeated champions Senegal after winning a penalty shootout.

The 28-year-old has been linked with a move away from Al-Nassr despite joining them last summer from RC Lens on a three-year contract.

Multiple reports had confirmed Al-Nassr’s intention to free up space in their quota for non-homegrown players as they try to register ex-Arsenal goalkeeper David Ospina in their squad.

The Saudi Pro League regulations allow up to eight foreign players and with Al-Nassr already reaching their limit, the club were keen on shipping out players this month.

According to Rudy Galetti’s latest update, Fofana has agreed terms with Al-Ettifaq and is set to complete a loan move until the end of the season.

The Italian journalist also added that Al-Nassr will try to sign a new player this month but have limited time to finalise a deal on deadline day.

The Ivorian had a decent start to life in the Saudi Pro League and formed a strong partnership in midfield with summer-arrival Marcelo Brozovic.

However, injuries and a few inconsistent performances have made head coach Luis Castro rely on alternatives in Saudi duo Abdullah Al-Khaibari and Samy Al-Najei.
