La Liga leaders Real Madrid are reportedly interested in signing Aymeric Laporte from Al-Nassr in the January transfer window.
Laporte had left Manchester City after spending five years at the Ittihad Stadium since his move from Athletic Bilbao in 2018.
The Spaniard is currently playing alongside a number of his former rivals at Al-Nassr including Sadio Mane, Alex Telles, Marcelo Brozovic, and Cristiano Ronaldo.
With 20 appearances this season, Laporte seems to have settled well in Saudi Arabia but the 29-year-old could be tempted to make a return to European football.
According to a report by MARCA, Real Madrid have Laporte on their list as they recently intensified their search for a new defender.
First-choice centre-back David Alaba recently suffered a torn ACL during their match against Villarreal two weeks ago and the Spanish giants are keen on finding an immediate replacement.
As a result, Laporte has been linked with Real Madrid due to his previous experience in La Liga but the record European champions could find it difficult to sign the central defender.
Al-Nassr’s stance
The club had splashed a £21.5 million fee to bring in Laporte from Manchester City on a long-term deal as part of their project under Luis Castro.
Additionally, with a contract until 2026 worth a reported £13 million per year, a potential January move may not be feasible for Los Blancos.
