Portugal head coach Roberto Martinez has revealed what Cristiano Ronaldo said to him after dropping a huge retirement hint.
Since joining Al-Nassr, Ronaldo has still been a regular for the Portugal national team while playing at 38 years of age.
The former Manchester United forward has recently claimed that he could hang his boots after two more seasons in the Saudi Pro League.
However, it seems Ronaldo plans to remain an active player beyond that time after recent statements from Portugal boss Roberto Martinez.
“He was very close to 200 caps, something no other player had achieved before,” Martinez said via The Mirror.
“Of course the conversation we had is private, but I can reveal one of the things he told me. [I asked him] If reaching 200 caps would interest you and he told me: ‘250 interests me’.

According to Martinez, Ronaldo is adamant he can reach 250 international caps, but to achieve that feat, the latter would have to play at least another 40 games for Portugal.
Ronaldo will likely hit that milestone by the next World Cup, which takes place in the USA, Canada and Mexico, where he will be 41 years old.
Despite his age, he has proven time and time again that he can still deliver at the highest level, especially after finishing 2023 as the top scorer with more goals (53) than Harry Kane and Kylian Mbappe.
