Cristiano Ronaldo has claimed the Saudi Pro League’s Player of the Month award for his contributions to Al-Nassr in August.
Al-Nassr had a disappointing start to their Saudi Pro League campaign after losing 2-1 to Steven Gerrard’s Al-Ettifaq in their opening game.
Just days later, the Yellows suffered their second defeat of the season as they were beaten 2-0 at home by in-form Al-Taawoun.
Despite their lacklustre showings, the momentum shifted in Al-Nassr’s favour as Cristiano Ronaldo’s hat-trick inspired a 5-0 rout of Al-Fateh in their third league outing.
Ronaldo was amongst the goals for Al-Nassr again during the week scoring a brace in his side’s 4-0 thumping of rivals Al-Shabab.
As a result, the 38-year-old’s recent performances were rewarded with the Saudi Pro League’s first Player of the Month award this season.
The Portuguese beat strong competition from Riyad Mahrez, Al-Hilal’s Malcom, and Igor Coronado of Al-Ittihad to win the award.
With five goals and two assists in August, Ronaldo’s displays have propelled him to the top of the league’s goalscorers list.
It’s worth noting that their £142 million summer signings of Sadio Mane, Seko Fofana, Marcelo Brozovic, Otavio and Aymeric Laporte also played a role in Al-Nassr’s last two victories.
The Riyadh giants now lie sixth in the Saudi Pro League standings with six points as they trail leaders Al-Ittihad by five points and are one behind Steven Gerrard’s Al-Ettifaq.
Before the upcoming international break, Al-Nassr are set to travel to play against newly-promoted Al-Hazm in the league’s fifth round on Saturday, September 2nd.
