Al-Nassr midfielder Seko Fofana expressed his delight with Ivory Coast’s first win in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The 2023 AFCON kicked off in Ivory Coast this week as the hosts got off to an incredible start with a 2-0 victory over Guinea-Bissau.
Seko Fofana fired his country into the lead inside the opening four minutes with a thumping strike before Jean-Phillipe Krasso doubled their advantage near the hour mark.
The result was enough to put them top of their group as Nigeria and Equatorial Guinea settled for a 1-1 draw a day later.

“We have been waiting for this moment for a very long time. We didn’t fall into any trap, we won the game, and even if not everything was perfect we are very pleased,” Fofana told reporters after the game.
“We will keep working humbly and try to correct the little errors we made, but I thought we played well.
“We are very pleased to have given everyone who came here something to shout about, as well as everyone who watched us on television.”
Fofana’s Al-Nassr future
The 28-year-old has been heavily linked with a move away from Al-Nassr despite joining the Riyadh side last summer on a three-year contract.
Saudi Pro League rivals Al-Shabab are reportedly the closest to land the midfielder on a loan deal with Al-Nassr looking to free up a slot in their quota for non-homegrown players.
