Al-Nassr have suffered a 3-0 defeat to rivals Al-Hilal in the first Saudi Pro League Riyadh derby this season on Friday.
Cristiano Ronaldo’s side were hoping to close the gap on league leaders Al-Hilal in the 15th round but fell to a controversial defeat.
The opening minutes saw Al-Hilal get the upper hand and had a couple of attempts to get the lead through captain Salem Al-Dawsari but the winger failed to make the most of his chances.
Al-Hilal nearly made the visitors pay after 14 minutes with Al-Nassr’s Nawaf Al-Aqidi making a huge error but the Saudi goalkeeper quickly recovered and gathered Michael’s tame effort.
Ronaldo’s first attempt at goal came in the 21st minute as Al-Nassr worked their way out of Al-Hilal’s pressure and released the Portuguese but his shot was aimed straight at Yassine Bounou.
A frustrating half for both sides ended goalless before the floodgates opened after the break with the hosts taking control.
Sergej Milinkovic-Savic gave Al-Hilal the breakthrough after the hour mark with a well-placed header beyond Al-Aqidi.
Al-Nassr thought they found the equaliser less than 10 minutes later through Ronaldo’s sensational volleyed strike into the top corner.
However, the goal was controversially ruled out for offside as the decision caused an uproar from Al-Nassr’s staff on the touchline.
With less than a minute remaining to full-time, Al-Hilal doubled their advantage from Aleksandar Mitrovic’s thumping header at the near post before the Serbian added another in stoppage time to seal a famous win for Al-Hilal.
