Al-Nassr head coach Luis Castro has called on his side to improve defensively despite their huge win over Al-Ittihad.
The Riyadh giants earned a thumping 5-2 victory over rivals Al-Ittihad away from home in the Saudi Pro League’s 18th round.
Fabinho’s red card in the second half proved to be a pivotal moment in the game as it allowed Al-Nassr to turn the game on its head after being 2-1 down.
With Sadio Mane and Cristiano Ronaldo scoring twice each, Al-Nassr cruised to their fourth straight win in all competitions since their defeat to Al-Hilal earlier this month.
Ronaldo in particular has now become world football’s top scorer of 2023 with 53 goals, netting one more than Kylian Mbappe and Harry Kane.
Additionally, the result meant that Al-Nassr kept a ten-point gap at the top of the Saudi Pro League table with one game left before the winter break.
However, Luis Castro was left unimpressed with some elements of his side’s performance and urged his players to work on their mistakes.
“We managed to beat a really tough team today and scored five goals after allowing them to score two goals from defensive errors,” Castro said in the press conference after the game.
“I know it’s a historic result for us but we must not ignore the mistakes we keep making every game. We need to work on them because there are still important games left.”
