Al-Nassr centre-back Abdullah Madu is reportedly heading to Steven Gerrard’s Al-Ettifaq on a short-term loan deal.
Al-Ettifaq have been struggling recently under Gerrard failing to win any of their last nine games in all competitions this season.
The Dammam-based outfit are trying to bring in reinforcements in the January transfer window and have been linked with a number of players in the Saudi Pro League.
One of their reported targets was Al-Nassr midfielder Seko Fofana but it seems that Al-Ettifaq are now closing in on the signing of his teammate Abdullah Madu.
According to local newspaper Al-Maydan, Steven Gerrard has given the club the green light to sign Madu, who has been looking for a move away from Al-Nassr.
Al-Ettifaq have been facing competition for the Saudi international from rival clubs including Al-Shabab and Al-Taawoun.
Madu struggling for game time
The veteran centre-back hasn’t been featuring regularly this season despite getting a handful of games last season under former manager Rudi Garcia.
With Aymeric Laporte arriving in the summer, Madu has fallen behind the ex-Manchester City defender, Abdelelah Al-Amri, and Ali Lajami in the pecking order.
This led to him handing in a transfer request two weeks ago with Luis Castro keen on keeping him until the end of the season.
