Al-Nassr centre-back Abdullah Madu has reportedly informed the club of his will to depart in the upcoming transfer window.
Madu has been one of the club’s longest-serving players after being promoted to the first team back in 2012.
The 30-year-old, however, has struggled to break into Luis Castro’s lineup this campaign despite getting a handful of games last season under former manager Rudi Garcia.
With Al-Nassr signing Aymeric Laporte in the summer, Madu has found himself demoted to the fourth option in central defence, behind Abdelelah Al-Amri and Ali Lajami in pecking order.
According to Arriyadiyah, the Saudi defender decided to hand in a transfer request to seek more game time after making only one league appearance after 18 games.
However, the report added that head coach Luis Castro wants Madu to remain at Al-Nassr but would not block a potential move should the defender refuse to change his mind.
Several clubs have already expressed their interest in bringing in the Saudi international in the January transfer window including Al-Shabab, Al-Taawoun, and Steven Gerrard’s Al-Ettifaq.
Al-Nassr’s injury problems
With Aymeric Laporte suffering an injury last month and Abdelelah Al-Amri out of action, Madu stepped in as an immediate replacement starting in games against Al-Fayha and Istiklol.
The Riyadh giants are still reluctant to let go of the veteran centre-back with a congested fixture list during the second half of the season.
